Can I request to join a closed Group?

A. If you find a Group during a search or while browsing the Categories and Topics that seems pertinent to you, and there is no link that says Join this Group at the top right of its home page, you have found a closed Group, which can be joined by invitation only.

To see if you are eligible for the Group, read the description and see if there are instructions for requesting membership there. If you don't see anything, you can click the moderator's name and go to her profile and send her an email message requesting to join. It will help if you say who you are and why you are interested in joining.

Some Groups welcome new members, while others have a limited membership or certain criteria for joining. Generally, it is not personal when you are told a list is not open to new members. If this is the case and you still really want to have a community about a particular subject, feel free to start your own open Group and invite others to join you! See Starting a Group?
